Demise of holographic memory

I was reading about vintage computing and came across holographic memory drive from inPhase technology. a 300GB disc costing $180 each, with its drive costing $18,000. But nowadays (2010), with eSata dock costing $40, and 1TB SATA drive at $75, we may, unfortunately, never see holographic memory in consumer market. Please share your thoughts
